How to boost your sales in April: Creative campaign ideas

Welcome to our monthly how-to series, which gives you revenue-raising inspiration each month! We’re getting down to Earth as we think about how to boost your sales in April, with a focus on sustainability.
Earth Month
The whole of April is Earth Month, a global campaign that raises crucial awareness of the environment, culminating in Earth Day on April 22nd. It serves as an opportunity to focus on conservation efforts, sustainable living, and accelerating climate action. The way that you manage your marketing across this month can contribute to these efforts!
There’s no denying that there has been a rise in greenwashing in recent years, and it’s easy for promotion campaigns that involve the environment to be viewed cynically – if they come without consideration, and, most of all, action. But one of the best things you can do in your marketing (and, we’d argue, in general!) is to simply do what you say you will. For example, we plant a tree for every new publisher we onboard. It’s a simple thing to do, but it has a big environmental impact over time. Taking tangible action builds trust, and trust is an investment and a community builder. Below are some actions you can take across Earth Month:
- Donating a percentage of revenue made across the month of April to green causes.
- Planting a tree for every order made over a certain amount.
- Auditing your processes and publishing the results of this, with actions – e.g. switching to print-on-demand models can be cheaper in the long run in terms of avoiding waste.
Earth Day (April 22)
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a core value for many modern readers. Use this day to really hone in on communicating your values to your readers, and to assure them of what you’re doing (or planning to do) to be more sustainable. Promotion ideas might include:
- A ‘Read Green’ campaign – promote the eco-friendly nature of your digital storefront, and the environmental benefits of digital reading (zero paper, zero shipping emissions), through your social media and website banners. Create a landing page featuring titles that can inform and inspire readers.
- ‘Eco-Bundle’ discounts – Encourage batch digital buying to highlight the lack of physical footprint. Offer a ‘Climate Conscious Collection’ or a ‘Nature Lovers Bundle’ where the discount increases as more titles are added to the cart – reinforcing that a full digital library takes up zero physical space.
- Author-led ‘Eco-Takeovers’ – Host a Q&A or a short video series with authors whose work focuses on nature, climate change, or sustainable living. Digital events are inherently more sustainable than physical ones, making this a perfect match for Earth Day.
