National Poetry Day: Team Glassboxx Picks

It’s National Poetry Day – the perfect excuse to shout about the poems we can’t get enough of! From ones we keep going back to, to ones that make us laugh, here’s what has Team Glassboxx waxing lyrical:

Bernadett Lesueur, Customer Service Representative:

“My favourite poem is Ballade: Du Concours De Blois by François Villon.”

Erik Pattenden, CTO:

“I like String by Spike Milligan.”

Ian Smith, COO:

“John Cooper Clarke is my all time favourite. Check out Beasley Street. I also like Kevin Turvey.”

Julia Payen, Finance Director:

“My favourite is Tiger Tiger burning bright.”

Kate Cruickshank, Marketing Manager:

“One of my all time favourites is Wild Geese, by Mary Oliver, although I love spoken word as well and John Cooper Clarke is one of the most distinctive I’ve heard – although I’ll always have a soft spot for all things punk so I may well be biased!”

Rory McNeill, Publishing Success Manager:

“I liked Lemn Sissay let the light pour in.”

Ruth Derbyshire, CPO:

“I also like John Cooper Clarke I Wanna be Yours bit of a classic.”

Sydney Allen, Product Manager:

“My all time favourite is Trio of Love Songs by Sylvia Plath.”

Tania Rumbold, Operations Director:

“I love Brian Bilston’s Serenity Prayer – ordinariness should be treasured. I also have a Spike Milligan poem that I return to when I want to remember to celebrate the absurd – Bazonka! It never fails to make me smile.”

Not only does poetry have a way of distilling the biggest feelings into the smallest number of words, but it’s an amazing gateway to so many different voices and styles. It’s a fantastic way to explore and experiment with switching up your literary horizons, and that’s why we love it!
