☀ What Team Glassboxx is Reading

Summer is here, and with it comes a little more time to relax, recharge, and, of course, read! Whether we’re off to the beach or the back garden, a good book is a must-have for the Glassboxx team. Here’s a peek at what’s on our bookshelves!
Erik Pattenden, CTO: One Man and his Bike, by Mike Carter
“Mike left London on his bike and has got as far as the Humber Bridge. It’s a funny (sometimes rather sickly funny) account of his travels cycling around the coast of the UK. Previously read Nagasaki by Bernard Clark – historical fiction based on extensive research into the build up and consequence of the dropping of the 2nd atomic bomb on Japan. Tells the story of the relationship between a Japanese lady and a British/American spy. Slightly slow to start, but quickly becomes fast paced and moving.”
Jeremy Brinton, Publishing Account Director:
“I am reading The Racket by Conor Niland. Highly recommended to me, it won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year 2024. It’s a “warts and all” look behind the scenes of elite tennis, by Ireland’s top ranked men’s tennis player whose career peaked in 2011.”
Ian Smith, COO:
“I have just started reading a book called The Guide of the Perplexed.”
Kate Cruickshank, Marketing Manager: Butter, by Asako Yuzuki
“I put this on my reading list the moment I caught sight of the cover – because yes, I do judge a book by its cover! It’s been a slow read for me, I’ve picked it up and put it down a few times now, but the pace is picking up and I’m curious to see where it will take me. I’m intrigued by the way the women in this are written, and I want to dig deeper!”
Rory McNeill, Publishing Success Manager: The Safekeep, by Yael van der Wouden
“Not my usual read, but I was so taken with this novel. Isabel lives a solitary life, dedicated to the upkeep of her family home in the Netherlands. She keeps its rooms immaculate, its fine plates and spoons in perfect condition, but when her brother’s girlfriend comes to stay, Isabel’s private world turns on its head. So finely written and crafted, every shade of the characters is so clear, so every inch won and lost between them feels real.”
Sydney Allen, Product Manager: I’m Glad My Mom Died, by Jennette McCurdy
“This is my first ever Audiobook as a dedicated eBook reader. It’s been an emotional one, and a tragic insight into childhood stardom. As it’s an autobiography, it’s been so impactful to hear her story in her voice. I’m hoping she finds her peace in the end. Once finished I’ll be jumping back into book three of The Thornleigh series by Barbara Kyle for a bit of Tudor era historical fiction.”
Tania Rumbold, Operations Director: A Book in Time, by Mark Stibbe
“I am finding this a slow burn, but I think it’s a journey well worth taking. I’m a quarter in and committed! The novel’s unique premise – narrated by a book itself – requires a little patience to get into. However, once you’re immersed in its world, the story becomes a rich and deep exploration of history, human connection, and the enduring power of stories. It’s a beautifully written and heartfelt read. And to counteract all the beauty, I am also reading Fiends In High Places by DC Farmer – a quirky, funny and fast paced fantasy Crime Thriller.”
