Fulfilling digital subscriptions from the WooCommerce SUMO Subscriptions plugin

With WooCommerce websites, as well as using Glassboxx to fulfill D2C orders of audiobook and eBook products, you can also use it to fulfill digital subscription orders created using the SUMO Subscriptions plugin. With this plugin, your WooCommerce website can take payments from customers via the payment gateway of your site on a scheduled basis for subscription products.

Setting up digital subscriptions

To create a subscription product using the SUMO Subscriptions plugin, on the General tab, the SUMO Subscriptions option is set to Enable, and the frequency, trial, charge sign up fee and number of installments options are set as required.

Also, on the Inventory tab, the SKU of the subscription product must be defined, and on the Glassboxx tab, the Glassboxx Subscription SKUs must be added. These are the SKUs (ISBNs) of the digital products that make up the subscription, and must be exactly the same as the ISBNs you have uploaded to Glassboxx.

When you save the digital subscription product in your WooCommerce site, the details will be sent to Glassboxx, and can be seen in the Portal on the SUBSCRIPTIONS / Manage Subscriptions page.

Processing subscription orders

When a customer buys a subscription, the SUMO Subscription plugin creates a Subscription that is listed on the SUMO Subscriptions / Subscriptions page and a WooCommerce order. With digital subscriptions, the WooCommerce order is sent to Glassboxx so that the customer can use the Glassboxx apps to read or listen to their purchases for the length of the subscription period.

The SUMO Subscription plugin will also attempt to renew the subscription according to the frequency and number of installment settings, and if successful a new WooCommerce order will be created that is then sent to Glassboxx in order to allow the customer to continue to access their digital content. If the renewal is not successful, a WooCommerce order will not be created, and so the customer will no longer be able to access their digital content.
