Product setup in WooCommerce

After you have installed and configured the Glassboxx WooCommerce plugin, you need to set up either simple virtual products, or variable products in WooCommerce for your audiobooks and/or eBooks. If using Simple Virtual products, and if you already have other products for different formats of the same title on your site, (e.g. paperbacks and/or hardbacks), for the best end customer UX, you should create or use existing grouped products that link all simple product formats of the same title.

Simple and Grouped Product setup

First, set up Simple Virtual products for your audiobooks and/or eBooks, with the SKUs of these products being exactly the same as the ISBNs you have uploaded to Glassboxx. (If the SKUs and ISBNs are not exactly the same, e.g. with spaces or hyphens, the integration will not work.)

Also, for the Simple Virtual products you create

  • Leave the Downloadable option unchecked,
  • On the General tab, add the price including tax,
  • On the Inventory tab, leave the Manage stock option unchecked,
    • Set the Stock status to In stock
    • Check the Sold individually option

Then, if you have multiple formats of the same title, set up grouped products for each title that act as an umbrella product for the different formats. The grouped products don’t need an SKU, but you should use the Linked Products tab to assign the simple products for each of the format ISBNs. The grouped products should also have a description, product image and categories. (If you already have grouped products for paperback and hardback formats of your titles, just include the Simple Virtual products of your eBooks and/or audiobook ISBNs to your existing grouped products.)

Variable Product setup

If using Variable Products, firstly create a WooCommerce custom product attribute call VP Format with the format descriptions you require as Attribute Terms (eg. Audiobook, eBook etc).

Then when creating the Variable Product, for the Attribute, select VP Format from the list of custom attributes, and chose all the values.

Finally, add the variations you require for each format and ensure that the variants to be fulfilled by Glassboxx are created as Virtual Products and that the SKU matches exactly the ISBN13 uploaded to Glassboxx for the corresponding audiobook or eBook.
